Christmas 2008

Around the corner

Can you hear the little drummer boy?
Standing there around the corner in the snow
He seems to be his parents pride and joy
He's not yet taller than his drum, had not yet time to grow.

Snowflakes are falling today on his warmly reddened jowl
Yes look, there in front of him is standing a tinny shiny bowl
His already strong fingers play freed without any gloves
And listen, he tells stories about Indian children holding doves.

In the bowl already lie some silver and golden coins
But his eyes didn't follow them when they falled from the sky
Karl better used the time to ask if anybody joins
Maybe the same aged boy there, who has even now a need to cry?

Boys and girls are standing there around the corner
Holding their hands to keep them warm from the night
To see and hear them is me an particular honor
To knit for all of them warm gloves would surely be right.

They leave their place every with one coin in its hand
Some stay together, some go home to Mum or Dad
But Karl just took his drum, an empty bowl sits on his head
Went home with a smile in his still reddened face,
knowing he just left a peaceful piece of land.
